Giampiero Milella was born in 1951 in Bari, Italy, where he still lives and works. He has had different jobs in his lifetime, in different fields, from car dealership to construction business. Yet his original perception has always been bond to the one of the artist. The ability to collect meaning from forgotten things, discarted materials, has been his permanent cypher. Since adolescent he has collected old machinery, industrial parts, dead elements and mysterious pieces of all kind.Remains of our consumerism. The artist as reconciler of objects and meanings, lost functions, finished consumptions. Recycled meanings, symbols, stories. Since few years he has focused on building lamps. Most of this series come from pieces of old gas pumps. The quintessential guts of the machinery that allows our engines to go on, become in Giampiero's works, new gestures. The same machine that used to only solve function, now becomes sculpture, new shape, new light.
